Cheep Seats

Sitting on egg shells

Sitting on egg shells

If the chair you’re sitting in – whether personally or professionally – feels like you’re sitting on egg shells, it’s time to take a deep peep into your own heart.

As you look to determine if you’re sitting in a cheep seat, here are some thoughts for consideration:

  • Are you doing the work and living the life that is the greatest expression of all the love you have to give to the world?
  • Is it the work and the life that fills you with exuberance?
  • Is it the work and the life that can power you through the most challenging times?

You deserve to be seated in the seat that is the most magnificent reflection of your perfectly, perfect gifts and talents.

If your current seat feels like you’re sitting on egg shells – get crackin’! It’s time to move along and cozy into a new seat!

In bloom

There are always flowers for those who want to see them. ~Henri Matisse

When the ad world changed and jobs for illustrators changed, Rosemary Fanti gathered her tools and her voice to bloom her own dynamic business.

During times of change it can be challenging to notice what’s in bloom and what is flowering.

What’s blooming in your world?

Happy International Women’s Day!

How absolutely wonderful to have watched the UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson’s live streaming Facebook event and listened to the Rising Women Rising World global event with Dr. Jean Houston, Marianne Williamson and Claire Zammit.

Some excellent learnings and reminders:

  • Your perfectly, perfect voice and your values can shape the future. Who will you be? What will you create? What will you have the courage to stand for?
  • Get out from under the old, worn-out lizard brain stories you tell yourself about not being smart enough, resourced enough, not good enough. Connect with and embrace your voice in this world. Acknowledge this is your world and you have a responsibility to take care of it – your voice matters.
  • Rally around and cheer on the women who have the courage to lead:I stand with you. I stand for you.”

As Emma Watson brought her comments to a close, she shared this:

 “You are a human being.

 “You can change the world.

“Be brave. Be brave. Be brave.”

Indeed. Be brave perfectly, perfect you – the world needs your voice at this exact moment. You are human. You can and will change the world.

The sludgey undertow

It’s easy to get accustomed to doing things the way you’ve always done them especially when those ways are producing results.

Adapting and maybe even jettisoning a long-time business model to meet the changing needs, changing populations and changing demographics can be especially challenging.

12751864993_8e4a2ec6e6When it’s time for your business or your project to evolve, the way forward may seem overwhelming and impossible. That way forward becomes clouded by enthusiastic finger pointing. Soliloquies full of fervor and disdain for individuals and management crash through meeting rooms and hallways creating a sludge-like undertow. Meanwhile all rational thought slips out the emergency exit.

So what’s the magic awesome sauce needed to avoid a poke in the eye and the sludgey undertow?

Getting back to your roots. Getting back to you.

The way forward is simply not that daunting – it’s a place you know and where your perfectly perfect, brilliant, energetic self thrives.  It’s the same place where your business or project thrives.

The way forward is rooted where your business or project got started in the first place: endless hard work, unflagging determination, infectious passion, collaboration, teamwork, the willingness to take risks, try, test, learn, implement and then do it all again. That’s how you built where you are today and that’s how you’ll continue to evolve and adapt to a changing environment.

Whether it’s plugging in your computer, covering the walls with giant post-its or scribbling on cocktail napkins, it’s time to initiate forward motion for your project – today.

It’s time to get back to your roots. It’s time to get back to you and the extraordinary ways you make important work happen.

It’s time. Go.
